JETRO Bangkok Hosts CBAM Seminars to Support Businesses in Preparing for EU Requirements

In September 2026, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO Bangkok) organized seminars on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to enhance awareness and understanding of CBAM requirements among businesses and relevant stakeholders.

Green & Blue Planet Solutions Co., Ltd. (GBP) was invited as a guest speaker to share insights into CBAM requirements and key considerations for Thai businesses preparing for compliance with EU regulations.

During the seminars, GBP highlighted three key aspects:

1. Emissions Monitoring and Reporting: Businesses need to establish appropriate systems to monitor, calculate, and report embedded emissions. The use of actual emissions data (Actual Values) must follow EU methodologies and meet applicable verification requirements.
2. Default Values vs. Actual Values: Businesses should evaluate the differences in potential CBAM costs, data availability, and reporting readiness when selecting between Default Values and Actual Values. This includes considering the readiness of installation operators and upstream suppliers of relevant input materials (Precursors).
3. Business Impacts and Potential CBAM Expansion: The impacts of CBAM may vary depending on product types and values. The EU is also considering expanding CBAM coverage to additional downstream steel and aluminium products, with other sectors, such as plastics, chemicals, and glass, potentially being considered in the future.
