Carbon Footprint of Production: CFP

Location: Rayong, Thailand

Industry: Chemical Manufacturing

Services: Carbon Footprint of Products Calculation

Background:

Green and Blue Planet Solutions Co., Ltd. (GBP) was commissioned to calculate the carbon footprint of chemical products, covering the main products manufactured and distributed. The objective is to obtain accurate environmental data aligned with recognized national standards in Thailand. The results will provide the organization with data on the carbon footprint of the chemical products throughout the production chain, in accordance with the defined boundaries.

Our Approach:

GBP worked closely with the client to conduct a Product Carbon Footprint (CFP) assessment covering the entire product life cycle from raw material sourcing and transportation to manufacturing processes (cradle-to-gate).

The assessment was carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) and aligned with internationally recognized standards, including ISO 14044:2018 for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and ISO 14067:2018 for Product Carbon Footprints. Relevant Product Category Rules (PCRs) and Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) methodologies were also applied to ensure the reliability, transparency, and consistency of the results.

One of the key challenges of this project was the complexity of the manufacturing process. The chemical plant utilized multiple raw materials to produce more than ten different chemical products through interconnected production processes. As a result, determining how greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption should be allocated among the various products was a critical aspect of the assessment.

To address this challenge, GBP conducted a detailed analysis of the production processes, material flows, and mass balance throughout the facility. Based on the principles and requirements of international standards, appropriate allocation methodologies were evaluated and applied to distribute emissions among the products in a transparent and scientifically sound manner. This approach enabled the client to obtain reliable product-specific carbon footprint data despite the complexity of the manufacturing system.

Our Value:

The assessment results provide a comprehensive overview of greenhouse gas emissions associated with raw material sourcing, resource utilization, and production processes for each chemical product. These insights can support operational efficiency improvements and serve as a foundation for further applications such as product carbon footprint disclosure, sustainability reporting, and environmental marketing communications.
